Do Not Pass Go….The Dating Game

Businessman standing and holding a stop sign in front of his head

….but I started to think about how many women probably wished that there was some kind of heads up on future heart break.

So there I was having dinner with the girls and listening to yet another conversation about how there are no good men left. Between Kleenex breaks and hugs I paused for a moment. I let my mind wonder to my own Kleenex moments and my past dating choices.  My thoughts were interrupted by the dramatics as my girlfriend stood up and clanked the side of her glass. I thought for sure that this last heart break had driven her over the edge but then she said something ingenious.

“Don’t you wish that dating came with some kind of Do Not Pass warning signal?”

It would be perfect, you meet a man and within the first few seconds if he wasn’t right a stop sign would hover over top of his head. This would be our que to about- face and run for the hills.  I giggled as she spoke. What would that actually look like? Well, that’s not realistic, but I started to think about how many women probably wished that there was some kind of heads up on future heart break.

What if I told you that we do have a warning sign?  Ladies, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Go back to that, so “I met this guy moment”. You were so wrapped up in the high of being with him. You called your girlfriends to talk about how good he looks, how good he smells, and how he makes feel. Maybe you even planned your wedding and named your kids. Oh don’t laugh you know many of us do it!

Now, revisit that internal warning you felt when you ignored the fact that something was just not right. It’s that deep rooted warning that grips your heart and whispers, “Do not pass go, just wait, I love you, I have something better”.

That’s our pivotal moment. It’s the choice that we get; either heed the warning & back off or take the green light and go.

That’s our pivotal moment. It’s the choice that we get; either heed the warning & back off or take the green light and go. That internal warning most of us ignore is the spirit of God. The Holy Spirit. Jesus said (John 14:26) the Holy Spirit is the ]Helper, Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf , He will teach you all things.

You see ladies, God loves us so much that he sent his spirit, the counselor.  All we have to do is listen. And trust me he will do far better than your Saturday night Girl friend chats. Next time you meet a man, take a moment, and spend some time with God. Be still and listen to that warning or approval. There is a God that cares so much for you that he wants to be involved in everything in your life including your dating choices.
